French blackgaze band Alcest was formed by Stéphane "Neige" Morano in 2000. Originally a one-man project, Alcest's early work was characterized by Neige's introspective and melancholic songwriting, often exploring themes of love, loss, and existential crisis.
As the band evolved, Alcest began to incorporate more atmospheric and ambient elements into their music, incorporating synthesizers and guitar textures that blurred the lines between black metal and shoegaze. Their 2012 album "Worship" marked a turning point in their career, as they transitioned from a purely black metal sound to a more experimental and atmospheric approach.
Throughout their discography, Alcest has explored themes of introspection, nostalgia, and the search for meaning in a chaotic world. Their music is characterized by soaring guitar melodies, pounding drum beats, and Neige's emotive vocals, which convey a sense of vulnerability and sincerity. With each release, Alcest continues to push the boundaries of their genre, crafting a unique sonic landscape that resonates with fans of black metal, shoegaze, and ambient music alike.
