Bert Jansch was a British acoustic guitarist and singer-songwriter who played a significant role in shaping the folk music scene of the 1960s. Born on April 3, 1943, in Glasgow, Scotland, Jansch moved to London at a young age where he became involved with the city's thriving folk scene. He was one of the founder members of the influential band Pentangle, which blended folk with rock and jazz elements.
Jansch's guitar playing style was characterized by his use of complex fingerpicking patterns, which influenced many other musicians including Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and John Renbourn. His music was often introspective and melancholic, reflecting his Scottish heritage and the folk tradition he grew up with. Despite struggling with hearing loss towards the end of his life, Jansch continued to perform and record music until his passing on October 5, 2011.
