Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band formed in 1985 by John Petrucci and John Myung. The band's unique blend of intricate instrumental work, soaring vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics has earned them a devoted fan base around the world. With a career spanning over three decades, Dream Theater has released 14 studio albums, including their debut album "When Dreams and Nightmares Unite" in 1989. Throughout their career, Dream Theater has undergone several lineup changes, with the core membership remaining Petrucci (guitar) and Myung (bass). The band's current vocalist, James LaBrie, joined in 1987, bringing a powerful and distinctive voice to the group. Other notable members include keyboardist Jordan Rudess, who joined in 1994, and drummer Mike Portnoy, who left the band in 2010. Dream Theater's music is characterized by complex time signatures, lengthy compositions, and a mix of heavy riffs, soaring melodies, and poignant lyrics. Their albums often feature conceptual themes, with songs that tell stories or explore philosophical ideas.
