Carlos Santana is an American musician who has been making music for over five decades. Born on July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico, Santana grew up surrounded by the sounds of traditional Mexican music, blues, and rock & roll. His unique blend of Latin rhythms, rock, and jazz has captivated audiences worldwide, earning him numerous Grammy Awards and a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Santana's music career spans many genres, from rock to jazz to salsa and beyond. He is perhaps best known for his iconic hits like "Smooth," featuring Rob Thomas, and "Black Magic Woman." These songs have become staples of contemporary rock radio stations and are still widely played today. Santana has also been recognized for his work on social justice issues, particularly in regards to the Chicano community.
In addition to his music, Santana is also known for his philanthropic efforts. He has performed at numerous benefit concerts over the years, including the iconic "We Are the World" recording session in 1985.
