The Spinners Vinyl Records
The Spinners are an American R&B vocal group from Ferndale, Michigan, formed in 1954 by founding members Bobby Smith, Pops Popwell, Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, and Philippé Wynne. With their smooth harmonies and signature sound, the group quickly gained popularity, releasing a string of hit singles including "I'll Be Around", "Could It Be I'm in Love", and "Then Came You" (feat. Dionne Warwick). Their music often dealt with themes of love, relationships, and social issues.
The Spinners' most successful period came during the 1970s, with hits like "One of a Kind (Love Affair)", "They Just Can't Stop It the (Stop and Go) Game", and "You're Throwing Away Your Life". The group's music was often characterized by its lush harmonies, courtesy of Smith's lead vocals and the backing singers. Their soulful sound influenced numerous other artists, including Michael Jackson, Prince, and Whitney Houston.
The Spinners continued to perform and record music throughout the 1980s and 1990s, with various lineup changes over the years. Despite these changes, the group's legacy remained strong, with their music continuing to be celebrated by fans of soul and R&B. In 2019, the Spinners were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a testament to their enduring impact on American popular music.
