Tommy McCook Vinyl Records
Tommy McCook was a Jamaican saxophonist who played a crucial role in shaping the course of ska and rocksteady music in the 1960s. Born on July 14, 1938, in Falmouth, Jamaica, McCook began his musical journey at a young age, learning to play the clarinet before switching to the alto saxophone.
McCook's earliest recordings were with the legendary Jamaican band, The Skatalites, where he became an integral part of the group's horn section. His soulful and melodic playing style greatly influenced the development of ska, which in turn paved the way for rocksteady and reggae music. During his time with The Skatalites, McCook recorded several classic tracks, including "Guns Fever" and "Manuel's Dub."
In addition to his work with The Skatalites, McCook also played with other prominent Jamaican musicians, such as Desmond Dekker and Jimmy Cliff. His contributions to the development of ska and rocksteady music earned him a place in the annals of Jamaican music history. Despite his passing on June 25, 1998, Tommy McCook's legacy continues to be celebrated by fans of reggae and ska around the world.
